PDN ANNUAL REPORT 2016 CONTENTS

Socially Responsibly Investing

PDN published its first Report on Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) last year. This report was added to the pension fund's annual report and can be consulted on PDN's website.

It provides background information on and insights into how the fund perceives its role in society. As PDN wants to do its bit to improve our society, we make sure that our investments benefit society, people, and the environment. One of PDN's investment beliefs for socially responsible investing is that “the pension fund should pursue socially responsible investments that do not harm the risk-return profile.”

Our socially responsible investing policy is based on five pillars

  • Exclusion

We do not invest in activities in companies and countries that the United Nations, the European Union, or the Dutch government consider unacceptable or which run counter to the standards and values of the UN Global Compact's Ten Principles. Controversial weapons are also excluded from investment.

  • Target Investments

Our investment decisions are based on the UN's seventeen sustainable development goals.

  • Transparency

The fund ensures total transparency in terms of pension capital investments. Our website features the names of all the companies the fund invests in.

  • ESG Integration

Where possible, investments are managed and evaluated according to Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors.

  • Engagement

We enter into a series of intensive dialogues with companies whose practices are not in line with the UN Global Compact's principles.

Over 2017, PDN will look to further anchor socially responsible investing in the fund's investment portfolio. At the beginning of 2017, the Federation of the Dutch Pension Funds (Pensioenfederatie) and its members published a declaration of intent on International Social Corporate Responsibility (ISCR), outlining how the pension sector will look to formulate an ISCR agreement. PDN has signed this declaration of intent.
